About us

The Listening Service Edinburgh provides non-judgemental listening for all people at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

The court can be a daunting place and, although court staff are there to help, they are very busy. The Listening Service volunteers offer time to listen and support those who are finding their experience at court difficult, stressful and confusing.

The Listening Service Edinburgh

  • operates at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Chambers St, on weekdays and some Court Saturdays
  • provides support to any court user
  • helps signpost people who are unfamiliar with the court environment
  • relies on volunteers who are trained and supported to carry out this role

The Listening Service Edinburgh aims to provide professional listening to help maintain or improve mental health through the relief of stress and anxiety. Any time spent in the Scottish court system is stressful, whether you are the accused, a witness, a member of the public there to support someone else in the Sheriff court.
